The concept
Geotracks is an interactive soundtrack project for urban itineraries created by the composer Paolo F. Bragaglia. It was created for the first time in Ancona in 2010 during the Acusmatiq electronic music festival.
Geotracks provides for the presentation to the public of compositions that evolve on the basis of the position of each listener along specific paths, accessible via headphones through iPhone or Android smartphones.
Geotracks are authentic dynamic soundtracks for pedestrian itineraries in the heart of cities, designed specifically for them, to enhance their landscape and architectural features. Once installed, Geotracks will be permanent and freely accessible at any time, for the time you want for anyone with a suitable smartphone.
These tracks belong is the first route of the project, that starts from the ancient "Piazza del Papa" and arrives in the wide sea spaces of the edge of the harbour.

I think it is the first time that such an operation has been done; it is a bit the convergence point of many stimuli that I have accumulated over the years of work as a composer for images. My passion for urban exploration and architecture did the rest. Everything is based on imagining the listener's pedestrian itinerary as if it were a long tracking shot, a cinematographic subject. Simple concept, but full of implications, which revolutionizes both creation and listening.
It is a bit the antithesis of Brian Eno's ambient music that proposes a definition of the sound of a given environment in a static way, Geotracks works, instead, in relation to a dynamic perception of the landscape "
